  13.     AUTODOC - A new DisplayWare program in which text files are easily prepared
  14. for display in color or monochrome, framed with eye-catching designs called 
  15. Decor-Edge Bord`rs.  AUTODOC is "three programs in one," since it is comprised
  16. of 3 sections or modes, "Create," "Review," and "Editor."
  17.  
  18.         CREATE:  The user chooses from 5 Decor-Edge Bord`r patterns which
  19. are displayed in full at the touch of an up or down arrow key.  Three of these
  20. are special "customizable" patterns.  After a pattern is selected, if it is 
  21. one of the customizable patterns the user may flip through more than 25O dif-
  22. ferent design-changes in which the Bord`r is instantly modified.
  23.  
  24.         Once the pattern has been customized the user may then try more than 
  25. 12O different combinations of foreground and background colors for the Bord`r.
  26. After the Bord`r colors are customized, the user then selects from more than
  27. 12O color combinations for the text area of the screen.
  28.     
  29.         After these selections are made the user is automatically brought to 
  30. the text-editing area.  A text file may be typed "from scratch" or a previously
  31. prepared file may be loaded into the program.  The file may then be edited and
  32. saved.  The text is saved in the selected colors along with the colorful Decor-
  33. Edge Bord`r.

  35.         The steps described above flow easily from one to the next.  The entire
  36. process is easy to learn.  It is fascinating to watch the changes as they 
  37. occur "in a flash" on the monitor screen.  This is one program which is enter-
  38. taining to use, and which yields practical results.

  41.         REVIEW:  In this mode a menu appears which lists all previously
  42. prepared files.  Arrow keys are used to highlight the desired file which then
  43. appears onscreen in full color, complete with the text which is set off
  44. beautifully by the Decor-Edges.  Pages of text may be changed with the PgDn and
  45. PgUp keys, or if desired the text may be scrolled line by line with the arrow
  46. keys.  The program comes with a number of prepared files ready to be displayed
  47. and read.  These include information files, an excellent tutorial, and others.

  50.         EDITOR:  This is named the AD-Editor (AutoDoc Editor).  It is a fully 
  51. functional text editor ("mini word processor") which may, if desired, be used 
  52. on its own without the colorization and decorative features of the "create" 
  53. mode.  If it is used this way the resulting ASCII file may still be loaded into
  54. a Decor-Edge Bord`r and colorized at a later time.

  56.         If decorative features are not needed the file may be left in its plain
  57. form.  The Ad-Editor has a pull-down help screen which is very useful, plus 
  58. many other good features such as the ability to print out the text with a sim-
  59. ple keystroke.

  62.                                THE INTENDED USER

  65.         Anyone who prepares information for retrieval by others will find this
  66. program to be very useful.  It is excellent for those who prepare materials for
  67. training programs.  It may be used for all types of messages, reports, greet-
  68. ings and announcements, for work and recreation.  It is fun to send messages to
  69. friends and co-workers, when prepared in this special manner.

  71.         AUTODOC is also useful for learning more about the use of computers and
  72. the IBM extended character set.  The file TRY_THIS.DEB should be read while in 
  73. the "Review" mode.  It explains how to use the tutorial file TUTORIAL.LIB which
  74. is a wonderful (fun!) learning experience. You learn how to move graphic ele-
  75. ments around, and how to "preload" graphics from a file called SPECIALS.TXT 
  76. which allows you to add even more pizzazz to your completed files.  There is 
  77. an introduction to the use of the extended character set for the creation of 
  78. original graphics.  Even if all of the unique features are ignored (they won't
  79. be!), the AD-Editor is an excellent text editor for daily use.

  82.                         UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

  85.         This program is so chock-full of unique features that it is virtually
  86. impossible to list them all!  In a nutshell, it permits you to add interesting
  87. and motivational eye-appeal to text files.  In addition to the features
  88. mentioned above, when you enter the "Review" mode you will find several truly
  89. extraordinary pre-prepared Decor-Edge Bord`rs which must be seen to be
  90. appreciated.  Some of these place an entire scene around your text!  It is
  91. astonishing to see your own words appear within a picturesque scene, and to
  92. be able to read your text page-by-page or line-by-line, whichever you prefer.
  93. There is even some animation which adds to the impact.

  96.                               PROGRAM'S CAPACITY

  99.         A total of 5 Decor-Edge Bord`rs is included within the Shareware ver-
  100. sion of the program, 3 of which may be customized by the user. It is intriguing
  101. to note that each of the 3 customizable Bord`rs may be used to produce over 
  102. 3O,OOO different combinations of characters and colors.  If the colors avail-
  103. able for the text area are also considered, there are more than 3,6OO,OOO form-
  104. and-color designs available for each customizable Decor-Edge Bord`r!   More-
  105. over, the pre-prepared Decor-Edge files add additional designs to the total.

  107.         ASCII text files may include up to 2OO lines of text in the shareware 
  108. version; this is increased to 22OO lines in the professional (commercial) edit-
  109. ion.  For the creation of colorized Decor-Edged display files the 2OO line lim-
  110. it is adequate for many purposes.

  113.                                 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  116.         AUTODOC is designed to operate on monochrome and color composite 
  117. (CGA) monitors as well as EGA and VGA monitors.  It also has a special switch 
  118. to use when loading, for users who use a color card to operate a monochrome 
  119. monitor.

  122.                               STARTING THE PROGRAM

  125.       Simply type AUTODOC and press the Enter key.  During the first running of
  126. the program a special test pattern screen appears.  This is a "once only"
  127. screen which alerts the user to the fact that he should use the special switch
  128. if a color card is being used with a monochrome monitor.  If this is the case,
  129. the program should be started by typing AUTODOC B (with a space before the let-
  130. ter B).  The program then runs in monochrome format, bypassing the intriguing
  131. color-choice options. The 5 basic DecorEdges are OK in black and white, but
  132. some of the special "extra" DecorEdges (the "scenes") lose some of their con-
  133. tent in monochrome.
